Sixth Form Open Evening a Great Success

Sixth Form Open Evening a Great Success

Thank you to all those who attended our Sixth Form Open Evening. The evening was a great success with many of our current Year 11 students attending and we were pleased to welcome so many students from other local schools.

The evening began with an introduction from Mr Parnell, who outlined the high expectations at Northampton Academy Sixth Form and the Academy values of Respect, Determination and Ambition.

Then followed by a more in-depth talk from Miss Smith, our Head of Sixth Form, detailing student outcomes, success stories and destinations along with an outline of all the fantastic opportunities offered to our students - including our careers advice provision, our 1:1 information and guidance meetings, leadership roles available, work experience placements and UCAS support to name but a few.

Mr Swallow, our Nucleus STEM Leader then introduced Nucleus VI. Launching this year, Nucleus VI is a unique programme for Year 12 students, who aspire to study medicine after Sixth Form. Aimed at a very small cohort, the programme guarantees successful applicants work experience in a Northants GP Surgery, regular contact with medical professionals and bespoke mentoring. Further details about Nucleus VI are available here >>>.

Tom and Kemi, our head boy and girl told us about their Sixth Form experiences along with Robert and Eliza, current Year 12 students.

The talks concluded with our guest speaker Kirstie Ralph from Nottingham University, who was available in our canteen afterwards, for any students who wanted to find out more.

Following the talks, students were then invited to take a tour of the Academy, visit our state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre and subject areas and talk to teachers and students. There were refreshments in the common room, where the Sixth Form Leadership Team were available for Q&As.

In the canteen area, we welcomed an abundance of universities and other organisations to give students their expert guidance and advice.

Special thanks go to all our visitors who gave up their time to be here to share information with students. Representatives from Loughborough University, Birmingham City University, De Montfort University, University of Buckingham, University of Leicester, University of Northampton, University of Nottingham, University of Portsmouth,  Northamptonshire Police, Engie, Northampton Army Careers Centre and Local Medical Committee members Dr Ireland and Hannah Scanlon, who were on hand to give advice to aspiring medics in the Science area.
