Cummins Factory Tour and Lego Launch

Cummins Factory Tour and Lego Launch

Year 7 Nucleus STEM students recently went on a field trip to Cummins, a large engine factory located in Daventry. This visit was part of 'Lego Launch', a project organised by the University of Northampton in partnership with Cummins.

The project will involve several programming challenges over the next few weeks, and the students will work alongside university PhD students and apprentices from Cummings.

To start the visit, students were asked to think of as many career opportunities involving Lego as they could before being divided into teams of three and tasked with building Lego robots. They followed instructions and worked with PhD students and apprentice engineers to complete the project.

During the day, students had the opportunity to tour the factory and walk around the factory floor. They learned about the different components that go into building large engines and observed the engines being painted, tested, and prepared for shipping around the globe.

After the factory visit, the PhD students and apprentices will visit the students at school to continue the project. The students will be given different programming tasks for the robots they are building each week.

Overall, it was a great day for everyone involved, and we are looking forward to welcoming the University of Northampton students and the Cummins apprentices to school in the next few weeks.
