Nucleus STEM Curriculum
Students within the Nucleus Gifted STEM Stream will cover broadly the same curriculum as the rest of their year group with some notable exceptions.
Nucleus students will be taught with the rest of their cohort for all subjects except the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), Mathematics and Computer Science.
The amount of curriculum time for these subjects also varies, with students within the STEM Stream not studying Design Technology or Music, to make room within the curriculum for additional Science and Computer Science lessons.
To allow pupils the opportunity to study Music all students within the STEM Stream will be offered the opportunity to take peripatetic Music lessons in which they can learn to play a musical instrument.
Students within the STEM Stream will study a 2-year Key Stage 3 programme instead of a 3-year Key Stage 3 programme, to enable them to complete a 3-year Key Stage 4 programme. All students within the STEM stream will be targeted a grade 9 in their GCSEs in the Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science.
